A person who spiked sweets with tranquilliser and distributed them to children at a summer camp in the area has pleaded guilty to sexual offenses against two children both nine and ten years old.
The defendant was arrested after eight youngsters and a grown-up experienced illness at Stathern Lodge in mid-summer.
The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, admitted guilt to a multiple criminal counts when he was present at the courthouse on recently.
Yet, he disputed one of the sexual offences he was accused of, which was against a nine-year-old boy.
Ruben was held in detention before a subsequent court date on 28 November.
'Sweet game'
The legal representative, presenting evidence, outlined the defendant's actions to the judicial body.
She said his victims were under-privileged children who were participating in a summer camp which he ran.
The man conducted a "treat game" with the minors, the prosecutor explained, in which he would access the children's bedrooms when they were settling down and request they to eat sweets "rapidly".
She stated to the judge Ruben had played this game with the young males "over an extended period", and youngsters had earlier experienced illness the following morning.
She explained the defendant had been successful in rationalizing this over a long period as the minors being "overstimulated by activities", until his family member had worries in July 2025.
Mrs Prior KC continued: "This year his stepson had worries about what was going on, justifiably.
"They resolved" to examine in the individual's items."
The legal counsel said items including infant oil, Vaseline and injection devices were located, and his stepson alerted the law enforcement about his worries.
She stated the man continued to conduct the "candy game" with six youngsters that night - Saturday 26 July - and they were all sick the subsequent day.
"Authorities" had not arrived by that time," she stated further.
The police watchdog, the police conduct office, earlier informed that it was investigating the police response of the situation.
The prosecutor stated the children were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so the stepson called the police a second time.
She said the man then engaged in the "candy game" in a area of five minors.
