Vehicles in German Town Discovered Smeared with Swastikas in Blood, Police Report

Incident location Affected vehicle Local Law Enforcement
Police reported they were alerted by a man who discovered a car in Hanau smeared with red-colored liquid

Around 50 cars have been smeared with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau near Frankfurt, according to police.

Automobiles, walls and mailboxes were marked, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they announced in a release.

Law enforcement say they were notified during the night on Wednesday, when a resident observed that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.

The substance had been applied in the shape of a swastika, they reported.

Officers then discovered numerous other smeared automobiles and residential walls in the adjacent neighborhood.

These symbols are banned in Germany under laws outlawing the visible presentation of symbols from the Nazi era.

Officials report early analysis show the liquid was most likely human blood.

"There is still no indication as to its origin; investigators are currently not informed of any harm in connection with the event," they added.

Local authorities stated they were working "to unravel the incident" and have requested to the community for tips.

A high-ranking official stated the attack rendered him stunned and needed to be solved quickly.

"This event strikes at the center of Hanau and reawakens the wounds of the far-right violent incident five years ago," he posted on social media, referring to the death of nine individuals by a gunman aiming at residents of immigrant origin in 2020.
